Centro’s projects include youth empowerment, the Sanctuary Garden in Arcata, and radio programs that make a statement in defense of Indigenous women, families, Dreamers, and all members of this community that respect and appreciate the richness of diversity. We learned more about the history of Humboldt Bay during an 8.5-mile cruise along the bay's shores as Captain Kevin shared local history, industries, activities, points of interest, and wildlife… The wonders that the water, the ocean, gives us is impressive.”“Gracias a Humboldt Waterkeeper, Centro del Pueblo continúa con la hermosa tradición de pasear en el Majestuoso Madaket. Conocimos más de la historia de la Bahía de Humboldt durante un crucero de 8.5 millas por las costas de la bahía mientras el capitán Kevin nos compartió la historia local, las industrias, las actividades, los puntos de interés y la vida silvestre… es impresionante las maravillas que el agua, el océano nos regala.”Other partner organizations include English Express (the non-profit English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) school), Community Access Program for Eureka, The Studio & Canvas + Clay (an art program for adults with varying abilities), Humboldt County Library’s summer reading program, the Humboldt County Transition-Aged Youth Collaboration, and Ciencia Para Todos (“Science for All”), which was formed at Cal Poly Humboldt in 2019 to promote science for all through bilingual education to inspire elementary school students to consider science majors in higher education.This year’s tours were funded by the State Coastal Conservancy’s Explore the Coast grant program.
