The City of Eureka will sponsor its 4th Annual Mayday Cleanup, a community effort to remove trash from several locations along the Humboldt Bay waterfront. Volunteers will meet at Halvorson Park, Eureka Boardwalk, Palco Marsh, or Elk River Wildlife Sanctuary. The City will provide trash bags and pickers, as well as refreshments. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own re-usable gloves in an effort to reduce waste.
You can register at http://www.maydaycleanup.com/ or by calling 441-4184.
Clean Streets Lead to a Healthy Humboldt Bay
This year we’ve added a new component to the event. If there is a group of people that would like to concentrate their efforts within a particular area of Eureka, then call 441-4184. We only ask that there are at least 10 volunteers and that arrangements are made prior to May 1st. The Stormwater Division will provide pickers, bags and disposal. Each volunteer will still receive a t-shirt and sports bottle and is invited to attend the volunteer appreciation event (see below).
Volunteer Appreciation BBQ and Concert
At 3 p.m. a BBQ will be held on the Boardwalk with live music by the Delta Nationals. A prize drawing will award lucky participating volunteers with gift certificates provided by City of Eureka merchants.
