Help plant wetland grasses and sedges to restore salmonid habitat along Freshwater Slough, a major tributary to Humboldt Bay.
Humboldt Baykeeper and the Northcoast Environmental Center will join the North Coast Regional Land Trust for a volunteer wetland restoration work day along Freshwater Slough near Three Corners.
During the summer of 2009, the Northcoast Regional Land Trust constructed a series of slough channels and ponds in an area historically dominated by marshes. Now, to finish the project, native plants will be reintroduced to the site.
There is standing water and saturated wetland soils, so rubber boots are the best bet for comfort. Gardening gloves, water and snacks are also recommended. A portable restroom will be available nearby. Children of all ages with adult supervision are welcome.
Please RSVP: Ryan Wells, NCRLT Project Manager, at 707- 822-2242, or send an email to wells@ncrlt.org.
