If you missed all or part of the Humboldt Bay Symposium last April, you can now watch the videos of the presentations on Access Humboldt!
The symposium was dedicated to Frank Shaughnessy in recognition of his significant contributions to estuarine and marine ecology in Humboldt Bay and the north coast, for his lengthy teaching career inspiring...
hundreds of university students over the years, and for being a founding board member of the Coastal Ecosystems Institute of Northern California. Frank opened the symposium with an overview of his life's work on Humboldt Bay.
Sadly, Frank died on June 21, after an almost four-year battle with kidney cancer. His obituary highlights his love of teaching, which transformed over the years from old school "sink or swim" methods to prioritizing and nurturing personal connections and engagement with students from diverse backgrounds
It was truly a gift to be able to celebrate Frank and his life's work with the Humboldt Bay scientific community that he helped create over the past two decades. Afterwards, he said it was one of the best days of his life.
