UPDATE: Thanks to all the public opposition, the Board of Supervisors took no action and postponed until Jan. 15, 2019. Stay tuned for next steps! On Tuesday Dec. 11, the County Board of Supervisors will consider rezoning over 400,000 acres, potentially changing the character of many communities that should have a say in the matter BEFORE the lands are rezoned.
Glendale, Blue Lake, Trinidad, Willow Creek, McKinleyville, and unincorporated areas around Arcata and Fortuna will all be affected. Once rezoned, many of these properties will have "entitlements" that allow various industrial, commercial, cannabis, or other uses with no further public review. Others, including some large ranches in the Blue Lake area, will be rezoned for residential subdivision.

The County has another year to finalize the rezoning as part of the General Plan Update that was adopted in Oct. 2017. What's the rush? Tell your Supervisor that communities need more time to review and comment on these proposed changes!
