Feature film is Plastic Paradise: the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Thousands of miles away from civilization, Midway Atoll is in one of the most remote places on earth. And yet its become ground zero for The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, syphoning plastics from three distant continents. Journalist/filmmaker Angela Sun meets scientists, researchers, influencers, and volunteers who shed light on the effects of our rabid plastic consumption and learns the problem is more insidious than we could have ever imagined.
April's Ocean Night will also feature Women and the Waves is a documentary surf film that explores the lives of female surfers who, have chosen to paddle head first into the male dominated sport of surfing and along the way found a place of their own.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. at the Arcata Theatre Lounge, 1036 G Street.
Ocean Night is a monthly, all-ages event sponsored by Surfrider Humboldt, Northcoast Environmental Center, and Humboldt Baykeeper. $3-5 dollar donation, free for kids. Don't forget to get raffle tickets at the door!
