On March 1, Humboldt Baykeeper submitted comments calling for the proposed expansion of the Gulf of the Farallones and Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuaries to be extended to the Oregon border, encompassing the coasts of Humboldt, Mendocino, and Del Norte Counties. Click HERE to download our comment letter.

As proposed, the expansion would extend only to Pt. Arena. National Marine Sanctuary status would ban offshore oil drilling and would not change fishing regulations.

Joining us in this effort are Surfrider Humboldt, Northcoast Environmental Center, Friends of the Eel River, Ocean Conservancy, California Coastkeeper Alliance, and Center for Biological Diversity.

The Mendocino County Board of Supervisors supports expansion to include the entire Mendocino County coast.

Stay tuned for a call to action later this year, when the Draft EIS is expected.
